Freeway Service Patrol, sponsored by GEICO, offers a variety of services that assist in getting a vehicle started and back on the road. The objective is to increase safety for stranded motorists while allowing others to keep moving. Once the vehicle is off the freeway, motorists can call a private tow service, insurance company or other forms of assistance, without the worry of being on a busy highway. Since FSP may be the first to respond to incidents on the freeway, Operators are trained in first-aid, CPR, fire extinguisher use and recognizing hazardous materials. The FSP provides the following services:
- Changing flat tires
- Jump starting your car as a result of a dead battery
- Radiator refills
- Making minor temporary repairs
- Providing a gallon of gasoline (diesel is not available)
- Towing your car to the shoulder of the freeway or to an authorized drop area
If a vehicle cannot be quickly repaired, the FSP will offer to tow the vehicle off the freeway to a designated drop area.
